Our Bands

• Symphonic Band: The Laing Middle School Symphonic Band is comprised of 8th grade, and select 7th grade students in the band program. The Symphonic Band travels and represents Laing Middle School at Concert Festivals and in national events. Students in this band are expected to practice daily, attend after school rehearsals, and take private lessons if possible. Students are also expected to travel on all trips to help represent the band and the school as one of the the premeir middle school concert ensembles in the state.

• Concert Band: The Laing Concert Band is composed of predominantly 7th grade, and some 6th and 8th grade students. They will have occasional after school rehearsals and perform on school concerts as well as SCBDA Concert Performance Assessment.
• 6th Grade Beginner Band: Thus is composed of all 6th grade brass, woodwind and percussion students, as well as any 8th grade "fast-start band" members. They will have occasional before or after school rehearsals and perform on school concerts as well as on the travel performance to Carowinds in the spring.

• Jazz Band: The Laing Jazz Band is comprised of the 7th and 8th grade students by audition only. This band performs at concert events locally and during school concerts. The students in this band are required to attend rehearsals weekly after school in order to perform with the Band. 
• All Region and All-State Honor Bands: In the middle of the school year, students will have an opportunity to audition for honor bands representing the very best middle school band members from our 9 county region and entire state! The students who successfully audition for these groups get a chance to take some time away from school (1-3 days) and rehearse with top-level conductors from around the country.
